INTRODUCTION

It is indisputable - that Donald Trump has "made a play" - with religion. He has brandished his Bible at auspicious moments during his presidency.

Similarly Trump has called upon the name of God frequently - at the very least, with that regular and familiar cry - "God bless America" - delivered from his lips, which is a form of "supplication."

MAGA in addition to its "secular fundamentalism" & "cult like structure" - sports also a "Christian wing" - more generally referred to as "White Christian Nationalism." The Vice President himself JD Vance - is also now a pious convert to Catholicism, with a forthcoming book - out soon on the subject.

AN ADMINISTRATION SPIRITUALLY CHALLENGED

Despite an administration reeking with criminality and vice from top to bottom - no modern American political outfit has worn - the air of "superior religiosity" - so publicly, albeit within equal measure - "hubris and discomfort."

Therefore - can you be surprised that certain of its members within its administration threatened the Pope!!! -The cause? - The Pope's - 'State of the World' speech (2026).

Just days after Pope Leo XIV gave his 'State of the World' speech - members of Trump's administration, having clearly analysed - closely - it's 'content' - objected to the Pope’s apparent critique of its militarism.

The "incident" - the "threats" - are said to have occurred in January, following that speech and the story goes - that senior US defence officials at the Pentagon, in a meeting threatened the Pope, as a result of the Pope's criticism of Trump.

Apparently, so concerning was the incident, that Pope Leo XIV - changed his plans to travel to the US. Unsurprisingly Vatican-US relations since then have deteriorated markedly.

THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION THREATS

There are varying accounts of the details as to what actually happened, but it appears that Cardinal Christophe Pierre, the Vatican’s U.S. representative, was summoned to a Pentagon meeting by Trump's Undersecretary of Defence - Elbridge Colby, who said that -

"America has the military power to do whatever it wants in the world. The Catholic Church had better take its side."

An official, in what was it seems part, dressing down and historical lecture, referred to the Avignon papacy in the fourteenth century, where the French monarch, in order to compel the Catholic Church into submission, ordered an attack on Pope Boniface VIII. This led to his downfall and subsequent death. The papacy was also forced to move from Rome to Avignon - France.

Donald Trump has also had images of him portrayed as the Pope. He has said - "I'd like to be Pope."

Perhaps - unable to attain that office - (a bit like the "Nobel Peace Prize") - he may well settle for the Pope having to reside at Mar-a-Lago instead!

Moving on from the threat and now onto it's consequences - "The Fallout" -

An unprecedented diplomatic spat between the US and the Vatican - is clear! - Already the repercussions have been felt. The Holy See has rejected an invitation to a White House - America 250th year anniversary celebration, due to take place in July.

Further consequences? - yes almost certainly - consequences, which shall no doubt be worked out and become clearer on the global stage in future.
